Car parking

Council supports businesses with free parking

New Forest District Council is offering free car parking on Saturday 6 December as part of its support for local business.  Shoppers will be able to park for free in all council-run car parks to mark 'Small Business Saturday' - a national campaign aimed at encouraging people to shop local and support independent shops.

Payments

In receipt of Housing Benefit? Tell us if your situation's changed

We are working with the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) until February 2015 to ensure the information we hold about those in receipt of Housing Benefit is correct and up to date. Information about your earnings and any private pensions are being matched against HMRC records.

If your earnings have increased, or you now get a private pension which you have not notified us of, please contact the Benefits Team on 01590 646121.

Any award of Housing Benefit is based on the information you give, and it is your responsibility to tell us about any change to your circumstances whenever it occurs. Failing to let us know may result in an overpayment, which you will have to pay back.

Alcohol awareness

Don't let drink sneak up on you

In support of Alcohol Awareness Week 17-23 November, the council's Health Development and Community Safety teams will be out in the district talking to the public about cutting back on drink. Visit them at Lymington Hospital (20 November, 10am to 2pm) and Blackfield Sainsbury's (25 November, 10am to 3.30pm). Handy tips, advice and plenty of resources will be available and they'll also be able to answer any community safety questions or listen to concerns.

Individual Electoral Registration

The way we all register to vote has changed across the country

Most electors have transferred to the new electoral register automatically, but some residents may need to take action to join the new register, even if they were registered in the past.

During July/August we wrote to all our residents to tell them whether they had transferred to the new register or if they needed to take further action. If you were asked to re-register and have yet to do so, you will be visited by one of our Electoral Registration Canvassers during October/November to assist you in completing the necessary form(s).

Alternatively follow the guidance on how to register under the new system or telephone us on 023 8028 5445 and we will complete the on-line registration on your behalf. You will need to provide your date of birth and national insurance number.
